For many avid golfers, Turkey has replaced the Algarve in Portugal, as a golf destination in Europe. The majority of these new courses are on the Mediterrean east of Antalya in Belek, and have been built to encourage tourism.
The resorts are new and shiny….very up-market….miles of marble, brass, glass and stunning decor. The International Golfing Fellowship of Rotary ( IGFR) holds a tournament each year somewhere in the world. This year it is in Turkey and headquartered at the Regnum, Carla Golf and Spa Resort, which opened about 3 years ago. The course here and two other local courses are being used for the tourney – close to 200 golfers.
The tournament formats are all Stableford scoring. This system is based on the number of strokes taken at each hole. It is not the lowest score you want but the highest! If you are not familiar with this system please look it up on Wikipedia – too complicated to explain here!
Day 1 for me ….partnered with a woman from Switzerland. Lovely new course 15 minutes from here and we managed to come 4th out of 34! Hopefully good play will continue !
