I was going to tell this story a couple of years ago…however…Now is the perfect time!
A 12 year old girl who had played lots of golf with her Dad was encouraged to go to the local golf course, see if there was an opening on the tee sheet and play golf…often intimidating for most people as you never know who you will play with. Well she was partnered with 3 elderly ladies. On her way to the tee box she overheard their conversation with remarks such as “Darn, we have to play with a Junior”, and “Oh, she’ll probably hold us up”. This little girl didn’t make it to the tee box, instead she cried her eyes out in the locker room…much to the concern of the pro and then the club manager.
Now for the best ending to this story…Annabelle Ackroyd, of Calgary Alberta, who just turned 14, has just won the Alberta Bantam Girl’s Championship with a massive lead of 29 strokes. Earlier this season Annabelle also earned a spot on the Interprovincial Team with a 2nd place finish in the Juvenile Girl’s Championship! Congratulations Annabelle!
If you are ever paired with a Junior – lookout! You may have the privilege of playing with a future star!
